Masters in Numerical Analysis and Partial Differential Equations (ANEDP)

Background 

The Numerical Analysis & Partial Differential Equations programme is one of the four programmes available in the “Mathematics of Modelling” specialty, the second year of the Masters in “Mathematics and Applications”.The course is jointly taught by:

  • Université Pierre et Marie Curie Paris 6 (main institution),
  • Université Paris Nord,
  • École Normale Supérieure (Ulm),
  • École Polytechnique,
  • École des Ponts ParisTech.

Objectives

The core topic of the ANEDP programme is the theoretical and numerical study of problems modelled by linear and nonlinear partial differential equations drawn from various spheres such as physics, engineering science, chemistry, biology, economics and scientific calculation methods.Their purpose is to simulate these problems numerically.With its wide range of courses, this Masters programme offers the opportunity to explore and master the different aspects of these disciplines.The different mathematical fields concerned are diverse and fast changing. Their development is reflected in growing demand for research mathematicians, and this role is the primary objective of the Masters programme.

The goal of the ANEDP programme is to train:

  • researchers in applied mathematics for careers in higher education and research or in high-tech industrial programmes,
  • high-level mathematical engineers with a strong grounding in all aspects of modern scientific calculation, looking for careers in industrial research departments and companies providing scientific calculation services.
